Name That Tune

My cousin is pregnant too and on her registry they had these Rockabye Baby Lullaby Rendition CD's on their wish list, so I went home to check them out and I pretty much want every CD! They're CD's by some of the greatest artists and their most popular songs; but they're done in the sounds of an instrumental lullaby. They have greats like: The Beatles, Aerosmith, No Doubt, Cold Play, Bob Marley, The Beach Boys, Black Sabbath, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Elvis Presley, Guns N Roses, and SOOOOOO many more. They just released a Madonna version!  To see more go here

Here's a sample from Madonna's CD.... can you name that tune?

A Tribe Called Quest Documentary

Last night I was fortunate to see the new documentary "Beats, Rhymes, & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest" at Tempe Marketplace. The reason I say I was fortunate enough is because well although Arizona is considered a top ten major city to live in, it's not technically known for its hip hop scene so when I found out a few months ago that Arizona would be screening the documentary, I bought the tickets as soon as I could.

This film is directed by comedian/actor, Michael Rappaport who is a huge hip hop lover and this documentary is his love letter to A Tribe Called Quest. I must say despite the controversy and animosity that was built up behind the scenes regarding it, I thought the documentary was very well done. The controversy started because Tribe wanted creative control over the film, but being as it's a documentary, Rappaport said it wasn't a good idea. Q-Tip felt that the documentary focused too much on the beef between he and group member, Phife and not on what Tribe did musically for the past 20 years. However, I don't agree with Tip, I mean, we want to see the rise, fall, and rise again of this legendary hip hop group. We want to see the truth and not just the sugarcoated side of it.

The documentary was entertaining, funny, full of hip hip history, and even tore at your heart strings a little at times. There was special guest appearances by the Beastie Boys, Common, Pharrell (yum), De La Soul, ?uestlove, and more.
