Carl's Jr. Has Gone Turkey

Is Carl's Jr. really going healthy? The chain, known for its sloppy calorie-packed Six Dollar burgers, will start selling a line of charbroiled turkey burgers today that are less than 500 calories. I am sooo there especially since I don't eat beef.

There will be 3 different kinds of turkey burgers:

• Turkey Burger: Features a charbroiled turkey patty, ketchup, mayo, lettuce, red onion, tomato and pickle
• Guacamole Turkey Burger: Features a charbroiled turkey patty, freshly-prepared guacamole, pepper-jack cheese, tomato, lettuce. 
• Teriyaki Turkey Burger: Features a charbroiled turkey patty. teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple, Swiss cheese, red onion, tomato, and lettuce. 

All are served on a toasted wheat bun. 

Starbucks Cake Pops

I finally had the opportunity to try these puppies, or should I say poppies this past weekend and can I just say, OH. MY. Word. They were to die for! I was given a free sample for Starbucks' 40th anniversary, so I tried the Rocky Road one and when I bit into it, I bit into a little fudgy-brownie bite of heaven. So being the sweet tooth addict that I am, I went back the next day and purchased all 3 (don't judge me damnit) and over the next few days, I ate all 3 flavors (rocky road, birthday cake, and tiramisu). I must admit every single one of them was to die for. TO DIE FOR i say. My favorite has to be the tiramisu, something about that mocha, coffee flavor is super addicting. Although they're extremely fattening and super high calorie count, these little gems will def be something I treat myself to every now and then. Next time you're in Starbucks, don't forget to get you some treats.

iPic Theaters

A new Scottsdale Quarter theater that offers a luxurious experience that includes premium seating, cocktail lounge, freshly made concession items and a restaurant can be found at iPic Theaters. Recently opened on December 17th.

Located at 15257 N. Scottsdale Rd.  at the Scottsdale Quarter. Movie prices range from $14-$25 Sunday-Thursday, and $17.50-$25 Friday and Saturday. This does sound a little steep, but at least you know you won't be sitting next to teenagers making your movie going experience a living hell.

This would be an ultimate date-night or girls night out.

Caramel Apple Dip Recipe

With all the potlucks and family get togethers during the holiday season, you may run out of ideas on what to bring. This recipe was given to me by a co-worker and honestly takes 5 minutes to put together because seriously, who doesn't love a caramel apple, but who has the time to make them!?! Below is a simple, beginners, recipe but will sure to please the palate of everyone you're with.

This recipe is easily tweakable (especially those who have a big sweet tooth and want more caramel flavor)

Start with two room temperature 8oz boxes of cream cheese in a bowl (it will be easier to blend)

Add one jar of Caramel sauce (like I mentioned earlier, if you would like to add more or less, you may, just follow your taste buds. I actually like Mrs. Richardson's Caramel Sauce better than Hershey's)

Blend all together using an electric mixer

Pour  into a serving dish

And then top with chopped unsalted peanuts (if you can't find chopped peanuts, buy the normal peanuts, and then put a handful in a plastic bag and smash the hell out of them with a large object)

Now get some granny smith apples and enjoy!

Hula's Modern Tiki

Another must to visit is Hula's Modern Tiki in downtown Phoenix which recently opened. It's very hipster-ish and something that you would never thought of Phoenix having, however it's very much welcomed. I went on Sunday with the bf and some friends and we sat outside for brunch in the beautiful, Fall weather. I kept an eye on all the patrons of the place, some cruising up on there beach cruisers (or just bicycles as they're called out here since we don't have a beach. Boo) and trendy hats and sneakers. I had the Kona coffee battered french toast and it was heaven. I want to go back one night for their dinner menu.

The Living Room

Over the weekend I met up with a girlfriend of mine and met at this new, chic wine bar called, The Living Room. They have two locations, one in Chandler, and one in Phoenix. The place was super cute, real chill and played good music. This is definitely not a night on the prowl to find a man. However it's definitely somewhere to take a date or to meet up with your girlfriends and giggle over cocktails. She and I enjoyed some bruchetta and wine. Very dope evening if you ask me. Definitely check it out if you're in the area. 

Mabel's On Main

Last night I took the bf out for his pre-birthday dinner, just us two and I've been wanting to try this new spot called Mabel's on Main (it used to be Mabel Murphy's for some of ya'll that remember).

I loved it. Very chic in the heart of downtown Scottsdale, so you know it's trendy. The only con that I have is if you plan on going just for dinner, go earlier than 10. LOL. We had reservations at 9:30 and well by 10:15 the Scottsdale "IT" crowd was already making their presence known. We were sitting in the middle of the restaurant surrounded by all the people. I felt like an animal on display as I devoured my Chicken Lollipop and blue cheese (seriously to die for), while the bf grubbed on bites of filet w/ horseradish (he said it was delish). I recommend getting their probably around 7 so you can enjoy your food.  Also, don't go expecting a huge menu; it is very limited, yet very yummy.

Overall, I had a great time, with a great person, and enjoyed some nice drinks and food.

Taco Festival

While everyone is at Phoenix Fashion Week, tomorrow I will be at the Arizona Taco Festival.... Holler!

The event will take place at the Scottsdale Waterfront (7025 E. Via Soleri – lot across from Olive & Ivy) on Saturday, October 9 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. General admission is $10 (free for kids under 12); a VIP ticket is available for $50, food samples will be $2 each, while tequila samples, margaritas and Mexican beers will be available for $4-$12. Select proceeds from all profits will benefit Waste Not.

I Must Be Getting Older...

That's right, I'm enjoying some Brie cheese, Ritz Crackers, Ikea catalogue, and some Stella Rosa wine.

Speaking of Stella Rosa wine, it's to DIE for. I'm not a big red wine fan, I love my Riesling, White Zin, and Moscato, but this Stella Rosa kicks ass. It's considered a dessert wine which is sweeter than your average Red wine that is more dry. If you're ever at Bevmo or anywhere for that matter, pick up a bottle of Stella Rosa. YUM!

Our Favorite Girl Has Grown Up

Hello Kitty is FINALLY old enough to drink....or at least old enough to make wines. You heard me right, Ms. Kitty herself is launching her own wine collection. There will be four different types of wine: the Angel and Devil Pinot Neros, Brut Rose, Demi-Sec Sweet Pink sparkling wine. The wines are produced and bottled in Italy, and will be available for purchase on the Hello Kitty Wines website soon. Prices will range from $19.99-$29.99. Although I'm not one for spending a lot of money on wine, I am def going to be one of the first people in line to get this. Especially since the packaging is so damn cute: the corks are covered with bubblegum pink foil, and the labels feature Hello Kitty in different ensembles (i.e. a cupid getup for the Angel label).

New Restaurant Alert

I love trying new places to eat...especially when they're chic and just down right different than the normal Red Robin and Applebees. Now don't get me wrong, I love eating at those joints, but sometimes I want date night to really be date night. Remember Mabel Murphy's in Scottsdale? Well there's a new owner taking over, and I hear the place is like a NY speak-easy. I can't wait to go. Who's coming with me?

 The speakeasy-style backdoor entrance leads to a vintage dining room of antique furniture, rich leather and woods to complement the classic dishes of the era. “It was a little more special to go out [back then] because people didn’t go out every day. It was more of an event,” says May. People took extra care in going out and in turn the dishes and cocktails took a little longer to prepare, he adds. At Mabel’s, hard-to-find scotches and aged wines balance classic items such as deviled eggs with caviar, Oysters Rockefeller and Veal Oscar. The restaurant will feature a raw food bar and a private dining room for intimate celebrations complete with a secret entrance and a one-way mirror to view the rest of the dining area. Aloha Festival

The 15th annual Arizona Aloha Festival is taking place this weekend, March 14 & 15. This year it's being held at Tempe Beach Park. The hours are Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. I wish I could go, but I'll be working both days. Booo. It's free admission to get in, so bring the family on down and come experience the two day celebration of Hawaiian and Polynesian culture. There will be entertainment, vendors of 'island lifestyle' products, food vendors offering a variety of island culinary delights, cultural displays and demonstrations, and plenty of that infamous Hawaiian Aloha Spirit. Chocolate Lovers

Historic Downtown Glendale will be a chocolate lover’s paradise Feb. 6-8, as the 14th annual Glendale Chocolate Affaire celebrates with music, romance and an abundance of that sinfully delicious confection, as well as free admission and free parking!

Chocoholics will delight in the three dozen chocolate purveyors, discovering everything from chocolate-covered potato chips to chocolate chile pecans to goat milk fudge.

The Chocolate Affaire is sponsored by Arizona’s famous candy makers, Cerreta’s. The candy factory will offer tours all weekend, so visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at how the chocolatiers create everyone’s favorite candy.

So, what goes better with chocolate than romance? The festival has become the largest gathering of national romance novelists in the Southwest. This symposium of literary romantics offers fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with authors, as well as the chance to attend free writing workshops given by the experts.

Families with children will enjoy myriad activities, including hands-on arts and crafts, face-painting and a rock-climbing wall. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available throughout the weekend to take couples or families on a scenic, charming ride through the historic Catlin Court district.

Event hours are Friday 5 - 10 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. The event is located in the heart of Historic Downtown Glendale, in Murphy Park, located at 58th and Glendale avenues.
